Contra Review

Contra, one of the all-time greatest run and gun platformers of all time. Just ask anybody alive during the mid-eighties and they will almost certainly tell you that Contra was one of their favorite games. In this case, we’re no different. Here is our take on it! We hope you enjoy the episode.

Classic NES Review: Dr. Mario

Dr. Mario is one of the best puzzle games to come out on the NES, and is a great compliment to Tetris. It’s a welcome addition to the NES Classic Edition (or the Mini NES as I call it) and is a great game to pick up and play for a few minutes…Ah, who am……

Classic NES Review: Double Dragon II: The Revenge

In another odd move, the NES Classic Edition gets the second game in a series, but not the first. That’s okay! This is probably the best of the three Double Dragon games on the system. The first one is cool, but is missing some stuff like co-op. The third one is absurdly difficult and has……

Classic NES Review: Donkey Kong Jr.

Donkey Kong Jr. is the charming little sequel to Donkey Kong. This time, Mario’s got a hold of his loose-gorilla situation and has him locked up in a tiny cage. It’s a shame he forgot to imprison the ape’s adorable son who has mastered wearing a shirt. To make things worse for Mario, he leaves……

Classic NES Review: Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong is one of those games that everybody should play just to show respect. It was the turning point that made Nintendo what it is now. Before this, they were a toy company with their fingers in several different pies (and by pie I mean love hotels, but we can get to that later)……

Classic NES Review: Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest

Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest might get a bad wrap, but really, it’s not such a bad game. It laid the groundwork for Symphony of the Night. It was one hell of a bumpy road, but the destination was glorious to say the least. The brutal difficulty, lack of clues, and unfair traps make its reputation……

Classic NES Review: Castlevania

Castlevania is a favorite for just about every retro gamer. From NES, all the way up to the PS3 and Xbox 360, there are great 2D entires for just about every system. People are plenty aware of the 3D outings made by Mercury Steam on PS3 and Xbox 360, but there are 2D games such……

Classic NES Review: Bubble Bobble

Bubble Bobble is a classic arcade game turned childhood favorite NES game. These are also the same characters from the Bust-a-move games, which is a “match the colors” style puzzle game where you ricochet different colored marbles off the walls from a cannon in an attempt to match up orbs stuck to the ceiling. Clearing……

Classic NES Review: Balloon Fight

Balloon Fight is one of the oldest NES games, and has a pedigree that few games do. It was the early work of Yoshio Sakatmoto of Metroid fame, and of the late President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata. The music was composed by Hip Tanaka, who also did the soundtrack for Kid Icarus and Metroid.

(Arcade, NES……

NES Classic Edition, out now!

Now available! The new NES Classic Edition, an HD plug and play from Nintendo. It looks like an adorable little NES but it has 30 games built right into the system. Most of them are pretty good! Some are even fantastic. Some…not so much, but it’s good to have them around anyways. For the most part,……
