Ever Dream of Making Your Own Game?

Like many gamers, we’ve dreamt about making our own games since we were wee lads. I used to draw up game ideas all the time! I’m sure you all did, too. Well, it’s not just a dream anymore. Thanks to GameMaker Studio 2, the excellent game development tool, we can make our own retro inspired indie games. In fact, you can start RIGHT NOW. Head over to our YouTube page and get started on your very own endless shoot’em up.

GameMake Studio 2 is Our Weapon of Choice. What’s yours?

We developed a simple to follow, hit the ground running, tutorial playlist on our YouTube Page, Retro Cemetery Gaming. You can follow along until you get the gist of it, then start making changes and let it become your own game! Look, I’m not going to lie. It’s not as hard as you think it is, but not as easy as you’d like it to be. But That’s okay! It’s a fun learning experience. I’m not “academically talented”, or “good at school”, or “can read at a middle school level” and “need help tying my shoes”, and “can barely spell my own name”, and even I made some playable garbage! And ya know what? You. Can. Too.

All joking aside, I really did poorly in high school and didn’t have much opportunity for college. I’m terrible at math and have a full time job and very little time, and yet, because I’ve always wanted to do this, I buckled down and put in the effort. Now, I’m fairly comfortable with it, and as such, I’d like to help other budding programmers and artists follow their dreams as well! But not musicians; that be the devil’s work. (I’m kidding, I just don’t know anything about music, but I’ll be sure to let you know if I figure anything out.)

I can almost hear some people now, “but what about Unity, Unreal, Godot, Construct, etc?” And that’s a fair question! Truth is, I got GameMaker in a Humble Bundle years ago, and I’ve stuck with it ever since. I’m sure those other programs are lovely, and have seen amazing games come from each one of those, but I simply haven’t the time to attempt getting good at all of them. So let’s jump right in! See you there!
